  • In late July, 2018, the InvestorForce business unit was divested from MSCI, acquired by Resurgens Technology Partners for $62 million and merged with its main competitor, Investment Metrics. The deal closed in early October 2018.
  • In my time at Investment Metrics, I continued to manage the Conshohocken technology team as a member of the executive team, and later took over all database, IT, and documentation functions while retaining the level 2 support team. I also ran the migration project to move InvestorForce systems out of MSCI data centers, and moderated a panel discussion about reporting operations and technology at the client conference in Atlanta in March 2019.

2013-2018 MSCI, Inc., Conshohocken, PA
Executive Director

  • In late January, 2013, InvestorForce was purchased by MSCI (NYSE:MSCI) for $23.5 million, ending Internet Capital Group's (NASDAQ: ICGE) 80% ownership stake in the company. My role as InvestorForce CTO continued following the closing of the purchase agreement.
  • Initiated and managed the hiring and onboarding of an offshore employee team of software developers, QA testers, and database administrators, including a dedicated offshore manager, and coordinated the integration of this team into a mixed onsite/offsite technology group of almost 35 people.
  • Guided the organization through the initial stages of technology integration with the parent company, including a complete transition of the desktop computing environment. Initiated major projects to implement a highly scalable horizontal architecture and execute a datacenter migration.
  • Performed technical due diligence as the technology lead for the acquisition of an independent Chicago-based data aggregation provider, including on-site review, creation of a technology integration plan, and coordination of the initial phases of the integration plan once the acquisition closed in late 2015.
  • Frequent and key contributor to sales efforts, including presentation of technology and data operations topics during on-site due diligence meetings, technology lead for contract discussions and negotiation, and prospect cybersecurity and technical reviews.
  • Presented several different sessions at company-run client conferences to groups of more than 100 end users and customers.
  • Maintained a quarterly software release process that has been going for almost 40 consecutive quarters.

1999-2013 Investor Force, Inc. (formerly PlanSponsorExchange.com), Conshohocken, PA
Chief Technology Officer
formerly Head of Application Development, Director of Technology, and Technology Manager

  • Led the technology team at this financial software technology company, including the Software Engineering, Database Systems, Quality Assurance, Systems Analysis, Infrastructure, and Support Level 2 groups, with 8 direct reports and a team of almost 25, constituting more than half of the total employee base of the company.
  • Responsible for coordinating schedules for multiple projects and product release cycles, leading discussions and decision-making on platform and architecture issues, and running software deployments. Established a rigorous quarterly release process, timed to coincide with the quarterly business cycles of clients, and a sophisticated capacity forecasting model for planning release contents. Participated in a transition to scrum and later guided a further transition to Kanban.
  • Planned and executed all technology tasks within a 5-person executive team that negotiated and implemented a high-profile sale of software and investment data product assets to Morningstar in 2006.
  • Planned, managed, and contributed to architecture and coding on the company's first .NET project, for a top national financial services company.
  • Designed and built a library of user interface abstraction objects for ASP web sites.
  • Led an 11-person technology team immediately following a significant restructuring of the company.
  • Designed and implemented a configuration management process for a 30-person staff comprised of five independent development teams. Designed and built a software tool to automate this process with VB 6, PVCS Tracker, and StarTeam, replacing a dedicated full-time individual.
  • Led the technology efforts on a team dedicated to database development and analytics products. Guided several successful, on-time software releases coordinating output from local developers and a remote team.
  • Led the technology efforts for an online communications and knowledge management product incorporating components from three vendors and internal developers.
  • Managed the development group, production site, and software configuration prior to the availability of dedicated personnel for each role.
  • As the first technology hire and one of the first 10 employees of the company, set initial technical direction, designed a user registration and security infrastructure, transitioned site development away from an external technology provider, and aided the rapid construction of a highly capable technical team.

  • Managed of a mixed team of up to 13 employees and consultants working multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Provided technical leadership on projects for finance, sales, marketing, and MIS throughout all phases of the project life cycle, using Microsoft client/server and web development tools.

  • Led a content development team of up to 6 people within the Comcast Cellular MIS department, building various internal applications with ASP, VB COM objects, and SQL Server 6.5.
